FAM and seven legacy players were punished by FIFA for falsifying documents.
KUALA LUMPUR: Acting President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi announced that the lawyers and management of the parent body were surprised by the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Appeal Committee.
In fact, the FIFA Court of Appeals recently announced that the appeal of FAM and the seven players from Harimau Malaya because the punishment imposed by the FIFA Committee on Rules was previously rejected.
Mohd Yusoff in fact stated that FAM would write to FIFA to obtain full details and written reasons for the decision before taking the next step to submit an appeal to the Court of Judicial Affairs (CAS).
FAM has received an appeal decision from FIFA, where our appeal was rejected," said Mohd Yusoff in a statement today.
This is the first time FAM has faced a situation like this, and our attorneys and management are very surprised by this decision.
However, FAM will continue to firmly fight for the rights of players and the interests of Malaysian football at the international level."
The decision by the FIFA Court of Appeals also saw a fine of CHF 350,000 (RM1.8 million) imposed on FAM before it was finalized.
Meanwhile, the accused players, namely Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garcas, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano were also suspended for 12 months in addition to each being ordered to pay a fine of CHF 2,000 (RM10,411) to FIFA.
